Sound is produced by mechanical hammers and converted into electrical signals via pickups. • Unlike a synthesizer, an electric piano is not an electronic instrument, but an electromechanical one. • Some early electric pianos used long strings like a traditional piano, while smaller models used short steel reeds. • The first electric pianos were invented in the late 1920s (e.g., the 1929 Neo-Bechstein electric grand piano). • Well-known manufacturers include Baldwin Piano and Organ Company and Wurlitzer Company. • The popularity of the electric piano increased after Ray Charles' 1959 hit "What'd I Say" and peaked in the 1970s. • In modern times, these instruments have become favorites among musicians due to their portability and high-volume amplification capability. ⏰ We are open every day.
